At Blackburn Primary School, our vision is to provide our children with a curriculum that enables them to become resilient, ambitious learners who take pride in their achievements and have high aspirations and expectations for their future.
To help reach this outcome, we use a topic approach to deliver the curriculum which provides exciting opportunities for children to see the links between different subjects and apply their learning to a range of different contexts. The topics are chosen purposefully not only to ensure coverage but to engage and build on all the experiences of the children. Tope are based on the National Curriculum
In delivering the curriculum, the use of co-operative learning strategies throughout all our lessons, alongside high quality teaching and engaging topics, ensures all our children are confident in tackling new situations, can work independently or as part of a team and develop a love of learning.
Children will therefore leave Blackburn Primary School equipped with the skills and knowledge to allow them to be successful in their own pursuits and to know how to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society.
Early reading is essential to future learning at Blackburn. As a school we teach phonics using the 'Letter and Sounds' approach. Click the link for more details.
